On 19 Sept. 05, Jacques Isnard was elevated at the grade of Doctor Honoris Causa
The Mateja Bela University of Banska Bystrica in Slovakia, one of the oldest universities of Eastern Europe – its origins are rooted in the XIIIth century - has just elevated Jacques Isnard, Judicial Officer in Salon de Provence (France), at the prestigious title of Doctor Honoris Causa, which is the highest scientific grade conceded by a university.
President Isnard was awarded with this high distinction in consideration of his very deep contribution to the development of judicial law in European and communitarian matters and for his action in favour of the creation of a body of Judicial Officers in Europe.
As part of the motivations, the scientific council of the university focused on the numerous participations at seminars, conferences or colloquiums, held by the recipient in many countries throughout the world, as well as multiple publications and studies spread out during the last years.
The strong implication of Mr Isnard in the reform of Judicial institutions of Slovakia, since its independence and its autonomy in 1993, was also recognised.
The ceremony, which took place with great solemnity on 19 September in the buildings of the university, brought together the highest personalities of the country as well as the French ambassador in Slovakia.
After the handing over of the insignia and diploma by the rector, Mr Isnard as well as Ladislav Haag, president of the National chamber of Judicial Officers of Slovakia and Mrs Anna Lamperova, Ambassador of Slovakia at the Council of Europe, were invited at a private dinner with Daniel Lipsic, Minister of Justice.
Dr Isnard is a lecturer at the Law faculty of Aix-en-Provence (France). He is also the president of the International Association of Judicial Officers, a worldwide organisation that includes nearly 70 countries. He is also a member of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
