The UIHJ was represented by Sue Collins, Board Member, and Jos Uitdehaag, First Secretary. The first meeting was held on 31 October 2012 at the headquarters of the World Bank. The delegation of the UIHJ met Hassane Cissé, Deputy General Council, Knowledge and Research, Legal Vice Presidency of the World Bank.

M. Cissé stated that the World Bank is concerned, among other things, with the issue of insolvency of natural persons. To study the key regulatory aspects underlying the insolvency of natural persons, the World Bank created the World Bank Insolvency and Creditor/Debtor Regimes Task Force in 2011. This Task Force formed a Working Group, inviting insolvency experts from around the world to contribute to the discussion of this issue.

The Law, Justice and Development (LJD) Week 2012 will explore the potentially transformative role of effective law and legal institutions in providing people with more opportunity that is both inclusive of underserved populations and equitable. To explore this theme, the LJD Week 2012, taking place from 10 to 16 December 2012, brings together World Bank Group staff, senior officials from other international financial institutions, international development practitioners, government officials, lawyers, judges, scholars and representatives from civil society.

For the World Bank, enforcement is considered broadly. For this organization, issues like bankruptcy, personal debt rescheduling programs, or more general poverty reduction, also are part of the broader concept enforcement

Hassane Cissé welcomes the input that UIHJ might deliver in this respect, including the contribution to the World Legal Forum of the World Bank as a platform where (legal) professionals can meet. Good to see that on the website of the Global Forum a reference is made to the UIHJ website: see: http://www.globalforumljd.org

The UIHJ will naturally attend the meetings to be held in Washington in December 2012 during the LJD Week.

On 1 November 2012, the delegation of the UIHJ participated in a meeting with Christina Biebesheimer, Chief Council, Justice Reform, Legal Vice-Presidency of the World Bank, and Robert P. Beschel Jr. Lead Public Sector Specialist, Poverty Reduction & Economic Management Network. They were able to further discuss the implication of the UIHJ in the actions of the World Bank, particularly in the context of the Global Forum.

A document containing all the projects undertaken by the UIHJ is being drafted. It will raise awareness of the actions of the UIHJ internationally, its achievements and potential.
