On 22 Oktober 2024 the project “Strengthening Enforcement in the Western Balkan Countries” (BESP) funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and implemented by the Center for International Legal Cooperation met with the Minister of Justice of North Macedonia and representatives from the Ministry of Justice.

The project delegation comprised: project leader Jos Uitdehaag, first vice president of UIHJ, Vesna Delovska, president of the Chamber of Private enforcement agents of North Macedonia, Veronika Efremova regional coordinator for North Macedonia in the BESP project, Zlatislava Mihailoff, director of the BESP project and Sergej Zafiroski, independent   economic expert.

Topics of discussion included improving the mechanisms for monitoring and control of the work of enforcement agents by the ministries of justice in the Western Balkan region, the importance of the development of a system of professional standards for enforcement agents and how to strengthen cross-border enforcement, both within the Western Balkan region and on a further international scale. The project expressed its gratitude to the Minister for North Macedonia joining the Hague Convention for the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Court Decisions of 2019 which was achieved under the BESP project in close cooperation with the Hague Conference on International Private Law. Special attention was given to the financial analysis of the work of the enforcement agents in North Macedonia during the period 2014-2022, as it was carried out by an independent economic expert. These financial analysis confirmed the need for adjustment of the Macedonian fee system.
