General Assembly of the European Law Institute in Vienna on 16 September 2011
On 16 September 2011 was held in Vienna (Austria) at the Supreme Court the General Assembly of the European Law Institute (ELI) of which the UIHJ is a founding member through its president, Leo Netten
The UIHJ was represented at this meeting by Francoise Andrieux, General Secretary. The meeting mainly focused on the functioning of the ELI. In his opening report, Francis Jacob, president of ELI, underlined the ambitions of the Institute, and the enthusiasm for its creation. He said that working committees were formed and that contacts had been made with the European Parliament and the European Commission. The treasurer went on with a financial report and the approval of accountancy.
The president spoke again to indicate that the ELI set the objective to develop projects to improve the quality of legislation in Europe as well as European instruments.
The Institute will provide all necessary counsel to the European legislative process and also examine reform issues and the need for clarification of existing instruments.
Of course, contract law is one of the topics that reflect the Institute in particular. A document presenting the ELI will be sent to the various legal publications throughout the European countries.
President Jacob finally stated that training should also be part of the goals of the institute. It thus appears that the work of the UIHJ relating to the preparation of the World Code of Enforcement and European training perfectly match the objectives of the institute.
