UIHJ training seminar in the Havana
On 14 and 15 July 2005, the Havana welcomed once again a UIHJ delegation
Training of young judges
Invited by Dr Ruben Regio Fero, president of the court, Jacques Isnard, president of UIHJ, and Dominique Aribaut-Abadie held a training workshop for young Cuban judges.
The chosen theme, “Enforcement of court decisions in commercial matters” concerned some very technical aspects such as interlocutory measures, legal securities, urgent procedures and special procedures (such as injunction for payment).
This seminar, which was placed under the direction of Mr Cobo, president of the Economic chamber or the Supreme Court, was extremely productive as it appeared to be a platform of exchanges allowing for the study of comparative laws in judicial and commercial matters.
A passion for exequatur... under cyclones
In the end, the Cuban and French laws are very similar. They even once were really identical until a few decades on numerous subjects (interlocutory measures, businesses, ...).
The domains of arbitration and exequatur were mentioned with a lot of passion, mainly in consideration with the need for the economy to project, on one hand on the most coveted of all international procedures in business law: precisely the arbitration, and on the other hand, to lean over the most international of enforcement procedure: the exequatur.
Nevertheless, it was regrettable that this perfectly organised seminar was disrupted by some dramatic climatic conditions (a cyclone had held up the whole country, keeping at home numerous judges who couldn't attend the seminar).
