International seminar In Minsk On 17 & 18 July 2008
On July 17th And 18th 2008 was Held in Minsk an International Seminar Organized by the Supreme Economic Court of the Republic of Belarus With the Support of the UIHJ.
A Welcomed Initiative
This seminar, whose topic was “The role of the judges and their support in the effectiveness of the activities of the service of enforcement agents: realities and development projects” was set up at the time of the 10th anniversary of the Department of Enforcement Agents of the Economic courts of the Republic of Belarus.
The UIHJ was represented at the time of this demonstration by its first vice-president, Leo Netten, his vice-president, Roger Dujardin, and by Marc Schmitz, quaestor of the Committee.
Several delegations of Eastern Europe followed the invitation of the Belarus authorities: Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, and the Russian Federation.
The seminar was opened by Dr. Viktor Kamenkov, President of the Supreme Economic Court of the Republic of Belarus. Leo Netten then spoke and greeted the initiative of the Belarus authorities relating to the organization of this first international seminar in collaboration with the UIHJ. Let us recall that the fellow-members near the Economic Courts are currently members of the UIHJ.
The Interest of the ministry for Justice in Judicial Officers
It was then the Minister for Justice himself, Viktor Golovanov, who addressed the public with a remarkable speech. He wished that the entirety of the Belarus fellow-members, therefore also those of the civil courts, become members with the UIHJ.
The fact that the Minister for Justice devoted the entirety of his day to the seminar and followed with great attention the work presented by the various experts, shows without any doubt the importance his ministry attaches to the body of judicial officers and their collaboration with international organizations such as the UIHJ.
Work continued the second day and many questions of our fellow-members could find an answer.
Then, all international participants in this seminar, which was a success, could benefit from the Belarus hospitality by discovering not only the splendid town of Minsk but also its ballet whose reputation is worldwide.
Now, let's hope that the whole of the judicial officers of the Belarus Republic can join the rows of the UIHJ in a near future.
