José Carlos Resende Re-elected President of the Chamber of Solicitadores of Portugal and Armando A. Oliveira Elected President of the College of Specialised Judicial Officers
The installation ceremony was chaired in Lisbon by the Minister of Justice of Portugal, Paula Teixeira da Cruz, in the presence of the President of the UIHJ, Leo Netten.
More than two hundred guests attended the inauguration ceremony of the new governing bodies of the Chamber of Solicitadores of Portugal, on 9 January 2014 in the auditorium of the new headquarters of the Chamber of Solicitadores in Lisbon. Also present were the President of the State Council, António Almeida Calhau, the Attorney General of the Republic, Joana Marques Vidal, the presidents of Portuguese professional associations and many other justice officials and Portuguese politics.
After installing the new members of the College of specialised judicial officers, Armando A. Oliveira, elected president of the college, sent some thanks and recalled the journey that started ten years ago.
During his speech, Juan Carlos Estevez, president of the General Council of Procuradores of Spain, reaffirmed the friendship between the professions of Solicitador and Procurador. He praised the healthy and productive cooperation maintained between the two institutions.
The president of the International Union of Judicial Officers, Leo Netten, highlighted the work done over the last ten years by the Chamber of Solicitadores, particularly with the introduction of the judicial officer in the Portuguese legal system. He also stressed the novelty solutions developed by this institution, as regards for example the Portuguese IT system for judicial officers, which communicates with databases of various entities, an example of transparency and speed.
Re-elected president of Solicitadores, José Carlos Resende insisted on the ongoing work that ensures transparency in the work of judicial officers, and is facilitated by this unique IT system in Europe. He also welcomed the progress made by the new Code of Civil Procedure, in particular as regards electronic bank attachment as well as projects for training and search of projects as PEPEX (extrajudicial pre-enforcement procedure) and GeoPredial (finding the limits of the property).
At the end of the ceremony, Minister Paula Teixeira da Cruz praised the efforts of the Chamber of Solicitadores in the construction of solutions to overcome obstacles. She also stressed the pioneering projects that have been carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice.
