Since 1st May 2004, the enforcement agent has turned European !
A wonderful gift
In his editorial, the president of UIHJ has related this historical event : The European Union has shifted to 25 countries.
It is needless to go back to his remarkable intervention but let's go back to the historical aspect embodied by this date of 1st May 2004, which marked the opening toward new countries.
The event in itself is general, and inasmuch as enforcement agents, there are many corporations that may have good reasons to be happy about this huge turn taken by the people in the European continent.
Nevertheless, the wonderful thing about this situation is that, while EU walked up another step toward its geographical unity, if not political, the European enforcement agent was given to us. This is now a reality: From Vilnius to Athens and from London to Warsaw through Lisbon, Budapest and so may others, we now have enforcement agents doted with a common status and identity, just like, since long ago, judges, lawyers, notaries.
An irresistible rise
When you think that, less than ten years ago, most of those countries ignored even the existence of enforcement agents, and that, today, no one would think of writing the first line of a serious European project without having in mind enforcement agents, you can fully encompass all the things that have been massively brought by the new Member States with the liberal status.
It appears to us that, even amongst the wisest opinions - we have in mind the famous international meeting that was held in Paris in 1993 - very few would have bet on a perilous - in fact utopian - adventure of such a rise of an European enforcement agent!
In fact, UIHJ can be proud of its actions and enforcement agents in the stimulating countries (France, Belgium, Netherlands) must be praised for their insistence. But the ones who are at the core of this evolution know it: EU, with its extension and the simultaneous arrival of our extraordinary colleagues from the Centre, the Est and the Baltic countries, has contributed, along with the creation of the European enforcement agent, to the everlastingness of our profession.
