Central Asia Rule of Law Platform
The European Union – Central Asia Rule of Law Initiative is one of the key elements of the Union’s Strategy for a New Partnership with Central Asia. Within this project EU supports the Central Asian States (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia) in legal reforms.
Those legal reforms also include reform of the judiciary and enforcement, both on a national and a regional level.
As a preparation for a Ministerial Conference on Rule of Law, a meeting was organised in Brussels.
In December 2011, in close cooperation with France and Germany, the “Rule of Law Platform” was founded, aiming to step up the policy dialogue on Rule of Law issues. On 12 and 13 November 2012 a regional seminar was organised in Brussels. The aim of this seminar was to promote the Rule of Law dialogue and exchanges of experience on judicial reforms and their implementation.
The UIHJ (through its first secretary Jos Uitdehaag) was invited for this Platform meeting to initiate the discussion on an efficient and effective enforcement as a fundamental right under the Rule of Law. The outcomes are to be used for the EU - Central Asia Rule of Law Initiative Third Ministerial Conference, which is scheduled to take place in December 2012.
