Within the framework of the justice reforms, Georgia wishes to change the statute of their judicial officers. Contacts were made a few months ago. At the invitation of the UIHJ, a delegation of the ministry of justice of Georgia attended the international congress of the UIHJ which was held in Marseilles (France) from 8 to 11 September 2009.

The Georgian delegation was composed of David Marghania, head of Division of Private Law of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, Giorgi Obgaidze, chairman of the National Bureau of Enforcement (NBE) of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, Lasha Maghradze, Deputy Chairman of the NBE, Nikanor Melia, Head of the Enforcement Bureau of Tbilissi, and Shorena Gigauri, head of Division of co-operation with international organizations of the NBE.

In Marseilles, the delegation could discover our organization and meet the retiring and entering presidents, Jacques Isnard and Leo Netten, as well as members of their boards and colleagues who came from all around the world. Contacts were cordial and let predict a forthcoming fruitful cooperation both for the UIHJ and Georgia.

On 15 September, the delegation visited the office of Mathieu Chardon, judicial officer in Versailles, 1st secretary of the UIHJ. Our fellow-member dealt with the delegation which accompanied him on the field during most of the day and thus could discover the practice of the profession.

On 16 September, the delegation went to Paris, at the head office of the UIHJ and the National Chamber of Judicial Officers of France to meet representatives of these two organizations.

The UIHJ was represented by Jacques Isnard, past president, Mathieu Chardon, 1st secretary and by Francoise Andrieux, general secretary.

The National Chamber of Judicial Officers of France was represented by its president, Guy Duvelleroy, and by the secretary of his board, Sandrine Jacquier.

During particularly rich exchanges, the representatives of the ministry of justice of Georgia showed a great interest by the liberal model such as it exists in France as well as by training. Mr. Marghania announced the will of Georgia to sign as soon as possible a cooperation agreement with the UIHJ.
